To Chop Shop, Haymarket, one of the capital’s latest steakhouse sensations for another HedgeBrunch Private dining evening. Ten select senior professionals from the HedgeBrunch network were invited for an evening of light finance chat and intimate networking over perfectly griddled cuts of fine grass-fed cattle. Representatives from all corners of the industry attended, including fund allocators, institutional consultants, private wealth managers and hedge funds, to enjoy a delicious meal free from pitch books and forced business card swapsies.
Chop Shop proprietor Will Guess welcomed us and made sure thirsts were quenched upon arrival with some punchy mojitos, inimitable celery gimlets and ice cold cervezas. This is not a place to stand on ceremony so ties were dispensed and the HedgeBrunch approach to mixing work and play was adopted by all.
Our private diners were treated to a three course sensory assault, starting with Chop Shop signature sharing “planks” of the best cured meats London has to offer. Heading into the main events; excellent cottage pie made with slow-cooked oxtail ragu, topped with spinach gnocchi, béchamel and breadcrumbs, Cumbrian 35-day aged fillet and Creekstone Hangar steak. This was serious food for those with an appetite and it did not disappoint. For those with the space, the meal was capped with delectable butterscotch custard and sticky date puddings. More than worth the run from home to Mayfair the next morning.
Shots of espresso wrapped-up proceedings after a night of heady conversation, with all of our guests leaving The Chop Shop well & truly sated. Another successful private dining evening and an absolute pleasure to watch our guests engaging each other so enthusiastically.
As an antidote to our normal Michelin starred haunts this was right on the money. Make no mistake though – this is fine dining – just of a different shade. We’ll be heading back to Chop Shop regularly.
